Hubby and I have had a dream for sometime. We have always wanted a larger farm, a real farm! We have felt much peace and the Lord's leading on this... Anyways... Since May 2007 we have been on this journey and felt the hand of the Lord... The economy tells us to get out of the rat race... We finally put our place up for sale this June... AND.... drum roll...
We purchased a 40 acre farm yesterday! CLOSED on it! YUHP! ITS REAL and its OURS! This farm is about 55 minutes from our current home, north... It has:

a 100 year old farm house (white with a green tin roof) (nothing like we have now :) )
a 100 year old barn with two huge lofts to put the hay in (some fresh hay in the lofts already)
a saw mill
a work shop

ITS AMISH, A REAL AMISH FARM IN A REAL AMISH AREA! WE ARE GOING 100% OFF GRID! WE WILL NOT HAVE ELECTRICITY, WE GET WATER FROM A WINDMILL ENGINE... YES, WE HAVE 2 OUTHOUSES, outside of course :) No, we are not turning Amish...
Please continue to keep our other house sale in your prayers. We know the ecomony right now but we know God led us here not to leave us...

Come along with us on our journey living off-grid! I will be updating this blog from the local library starting in a week or so :) I am not naive to know this will be a huge challenge although, we have heated with wood for some time and embraced a lot of these ideas already... I think laundry will be the biggest of the challenge! If that's the biggest challenge, I think we can make it...

That sounds very fun! I have always thought 40 acres was the perfect size as that was what I grew up on and loved it. It looks very nice!
I have never tried going off the grid like that. I think that would be an interesting challange.

Just when I start to really like this blog....will you still be bale to blog from the library. I admire the Amish way of life but I do love me some electricity.....
This sounds like an adventure. It will be fun to follow your new life!! We just embarked on a new chapter with our life too - although not quite as "off the grid" as you all - it has been fun and challenging.

Wow Ang! It has been awhile since I've logged on. What a dream! It is good you are walking with the Lord and have your eyes wide open to the possiblity of some difficulties. This will prepare you. How fantastic!
Will you eventually modernize? Electricity, indoor plumbing etc? Oh my! After the video you did to show how the weather really is there...how do you go use the outhouse in that weather? Never mind...don't wanna know, LOL!

We live in an area very close to the Amish...
They just helped my DH finish our siding on our house.
Our place looks similar to yours. Only ours is in a village...the oldest home on the street. Not a grand house, but it is our home and it belonged to DH's grandparents before we moved into it 23+ years ago.
Everything sounds fabulous!!!!
You will have everything you "need" and then some.
