homemade root beer!

I stopped at the staples store up the road today and saw they sold Root beer extract. I have always wanted to try to make it but it seemed pretty pricey. Well, I couldn't refuse this price! V's is only $2.30 as opposed to this one. They are the same exactly. So, for $2.30 I can make 4 gallons of root beer (plus the sugar and yeast)! FUN! "V" even let us try some all made before buying it. It tastes exactly like real root beer, fizz and all, but with a touch of a yeasty taste.

That was my deletion above.

I love homemade drinks. In particular I make ginger beer, a non-alcholic ginger fizzy drink that is delicious. I also make a lot of cordial over the summer from fruit we grow here. If you'd like to try my ginger beer recipe, it's on my blog. Just search for 'ginger beer' in the bar at the top.

I do have a question - sounds silly I know, but what is root beer exactly? Is it ginger beer? Over here in Australia I've never seen root beer sold - but it's been mentioned in many of my American novels.

my grandparents used to make root beer, and my mom used to tell of hearing an occasional "POP" when one of the tops would blow off because of
the carbonation....fun!

So fun...I've wanted to do this for years but don't know where to start! We used to do it at our church picnics when we were little...Lots of love to you, loved your post on having to face yourself. I know exactly what you mean. Stop by if you're in your old neck of the woods sometime...

this is also a non alcohol drink

Rootbeer is soda pop. it is just like COKE or Sprite Pop but with a rootbeer flavor. Kinda like gingerale but a different flavor.

Yum--I love homemade root beer. My cousins used to make it every summer--just recently, I was thinking that I needed to find out how they made it!

I make a really good homemade ginger ale--boil chopped ginger, sugar, and water into a syrup and strain, then add the syrup to sparkling water or club soda--it is SO much better than canned! ;)
