Spring on the farm... Here I am!

our pond and barn in the background... This is one reason we moved here!

I have wanted to say hello for quite some time (I cannot believe it has almost been a month) ... BUT, with 1300 strawberries planted, the big garden in, taking inventory of about 300 new chickens, heifers ready to freshen, a goat ready to freshen, starting to hay possibly, the victory garden in, a 5 week adorable chubby little blessing, nursing, 6 children, 1 husband, meals for an army, diapers, our first spring on the farm, planted 20 Honey Crisp Apple Trees, a new hitching post, a singing, church services, a new ride, pruned apple and pear and grape trees, clean up around the sawmill, found burdock on our land and learned how to use it on burns, thankful for wonderful friends that care so much, sewing and mending, cleaning up the wash house, laundry on the line, mending fences, lots of prayer, heifers loose, lawn mowing, finding new perennials, reading out loud a story or two to the children, learning some Pennsylvania German, sitting by the pond, riding belgians, trusting God for the impossible, a new announcement real soon, some with the mild flu, laryngitis, breathing fresh lilacs daily, raking the driveway, wondering what ever happened to the Yip-Yip Aliens on Sesame Street , sleeping on lined dried sheets each night, talks by oil light, spinach and radish salad fresh from the garden, a minor horse accident (not on the belgians but on an evil pony named Roger), a trip to the post office, homemade cranked ice cream from our own fresh raw milk each night, visits from friends, fishing for perch and bluegill in our pond, eating HUGE perch and bluegill from our pond, children growing way too fast, sleep deprivation with a newborn, yellow and purple orchids, rhubarb, farming out my kinner to help a new mom with 3 other littles, lawn mowing, lovin' on everyone, some times frustrated but ever so grateful, cleaning out the cottage, receiving our Johnny Seed order, planning a short get away, finding people from the community to do our chores, a very cold spring, planting 150 tomato plants (heirloom), discovering and planting ground cherry plants, longing for Leelanau, pressure canning ground beef and bacon, snuggling my little girl with bare feet up against my belly at night, loving that man of mine, eating supper at 10 pm after choring, bottle feeding two fawns that must have lost their mother, praying for some hard situations, walking the property, digging deep into the WORD, baking bread, forgetting we live without electricity and have for 8 months already, having 100% peace from God, making shoo-fly pie again on the recipe my momma made me growing up, shooting raccoons by the hen house, using an outhouse, wanting God's perfect will, wringer wash, wishing I had some more energy, laughing hysterically, gathering Bourbon Red Turkey eggs, saying goodbye to more conveniences, thinking of lots to tell you and finally writing on this blog today, I have been quite busy...

What have you been up to?

The "NO"tional anthem

video

I made this song up. This is my best falsetto operatic singing voice. HA! If you are a mother, you know how giddy you can get when you are sleep deprived... Each time I sit down to nurse the baby, the Great Him (19 months)gets into EVERYTHING... I feel like I am saying "NO" constantly... So, I made up this song for him... :) it has become a favorite around here!
