On becoming 40...

We have enjoyed learning the bliss of tappin' trees and harvesting sap for pure maple syrup. This is another trade I did not think I would have ever learned.

Last year we produced and sold over 200 gallons of maple syrup.

This year with broken legs and health issues we just tapped for the 8 of us. Its a great year for syrup weather wise, much better than 2010.

The count down to the big birthday has officially reached the month of the event. However in true Tobin fashion the birthday day has an official "grace period" of 45 days before the big event and 45 days after. But this year is the big 40 and 20 years of marriage so I declare we will celebrate the rest of the year!

What do you think?

Oh how I wish we had maple trees here...I'd LOVE to learn that "art". :) Too bad you didn't get to harvest as much this year.

Congrats on 20 years of marriage and becoming 40! Both are not so bad...I turned 40 last year and we've been married for 22 years this summer. :) Turning 40 was hard for me, but the anniversary was a great feeling. :)

Enjoy your celebrating!!!

Oh how I too wish there were trees for sapping here on the west coast...actually we have lots of maple tress, just not the weather for sapping.

Congratulations on 20 years of marriage and turning 40...the best is yet to be.

I've just recently started reading your blog and you have totally inspired me. :) I too will be 40 this year and my husband I will be married 20 years in October. I'm kinda dreading the 4-0 but just trying to think it's just a birthday. :)

I am new at reading your blog, but had to comment on this one! We are on the same track, just a decade behind... our 30th bdays and 10yr anniversary are about 6 months apart this year, and we plan to celebrate all year long! Might be kinda hard with 3 kids under 4, but we will think of something! I say, PARTY ON! Celebrate the wonderful blessing of marriage and Happy Birthday!

When I was a child I remember waking up early during "sap" season and walking with my Dad in the woods. We would tap over 200 trees by hand. We would then spend hours in the sugar shack making syrup. I loved this time I spent with my Dad and miss the farm life. *sigh*

Anyway...happy early birthday!! Next year is my 40th. I also wish you many more years of bliss with your beloved!

I love your blog!! Most importantly I love and desire your lifestyle.
