a Giveaway from Maple Valley off-grid Farm and Skyhorse Publishing!

I have been so blessed to be given a chance to review these two amazing books from Skyhorse Publishing Company!

Self-Sufficiency and Homesteading, Edited by Abagail R. Gehring. Both of these books are colorful, loaded with tons of information about canning, shearing sheep and gardening just to name a few. These are not just a coffee-table book but 2 books with a wealth of information. I have read many books on these 2 subjects but I found both of these very beautiful, entertaining and I learned quite a few new things from each of the books.

I will give away 1 of your choice! All you have to do is leave a comment here about what you enjoy about our Living off-grid At Maple Valley Farm Blog, so lurkers: IT IS TIME TO COME OUT! I will draw the name on Friday morning, June 24, 2011 and announce the winners then!
This is limited to the continental U.S. and Canada, sorry!
Happy winning!
In the spirit of farming, family and faith,

Oh! I have these books saved in my Amazon cart! They look awesome. I love the blog because, I so much appreciate the lifestyle you are living! The pictures and videos are wonderful.

I have had both of those books out from the library and they are fantastic!
I love the Titus 2 peacefulness that seems to radiate from my computer screen every time I visit, even when its a "we've been working so hard we can't see straight" type of post. I am always motivated when I leave. (And how you decorate, I love it! )

I enjoy the picture of your everyday lives. The beauty - the simplicity - the gratitude. I will confess that I love the romantic part of it more than the hard work part - cutting ice blocks and chasing pigs!!! But it's fun to see your family come alongside of each other and work together. It's a wonderful beautiful thing and I learn so much by reading your posts. God bless! Nicole

Oh! I just found your blog about a month ago. I became a follower as soon as I began reading through past posts! You are living my dream... I've always wanted to move to a big old Amish farmhouse and raise my children on a farm just like you guys are doing. Hubby is all for it...except the no electricity part!!

Jean said...

I subscribed for many reasons. I grew up in Michigan (currently in Iowa). We have close connections with Amish. I once was member of horse & buggy group (Brethren in Indiana) for six years. You continue "simple" lifestyle. You served me a reminder of what I can do as a town wife. I still love "homesteading"!

We are farmers and appreciate your simple approach to life, which is anything but simple as far as work is concerned. ;)

Great giveaway. I'd love to read them!

I think what I enjoy most about this site is learning right along side of you and the Reporter Ang videos. I've always wanted to be a farmer and I hope to have one some day...even if it's a small one.

How can I choose one thing about your blog that I love? I look forward each day coming home from teaching 7th graders to check for the latest picture and inspiration from your farm. I love the spiritual connection of working the earth and feeling closer to God. I love the way that your family, not the actual farming, is the focus of your life. THank you for taking the time to share with ush

Your family is such an inspiration of the way you let the Lord guide your decisions. I also love that you aren't afraid to try new things and to live life on your own terms. My favorite thing is your you tube news updates! Keep them coming!

I admire everything you do and love following your blog as it gives me inspiration to one day being a family that homesteads and teaching my children to follow our dreams.

I like seeing you girls do your chores in skirts. As a skirt wearing girl myself, I'm glad to see others working in the garden in flowery skirts!

I like to watch your videos and see your everyday life....it does a lot for my soul!

I would love either book - they both look wonderful!

I love the pictures you share of your place! Amazing! I was just looking at those books at the book store the other day...they are really cool books. :)

These look great...I'd love to have either of them! I enjoy your pictures of life on the farm and just things around the house or cabin. My favorite is when you do a little more storytelling thought. I enjoy hearing about your life, your thoughts on the changes you made, and just what is happening on the farm at the time. Personally I like the written things as I don't typically watch the videos.

Thanks for the giveaway,

my husband and I follow your blog, for it is something we wish to do someday -- go offgrid. Right now though, I'm not ready :D

we do however, cut our own wood for our woodstove, raise our own freezer foods (animals and plants), we can foods, make homemade foods, homeschool our son, and we love that we have the means and the desires to do all that we can to be self-sustaining.. and we are learning each step along the way, as we do not have anyone to teach.

and your blog gives us encouragement to keep on doing what we're doing, thanks :D

Angie, I have been coming to your blog every day for a year now. I love that y'all use horses to plow and do other work for you. I think that's my favorite part of the farm for me. It's a dream of mine to have horse to plow my gardens.

I've been wanting these books for a couple of years now! They look awesome! My favorite thing about your blog is the encouragement I get from reading it. My family hopes to be off-grid someday and self sufficient and I also loving seeing pictures of the family.

Jenna said...

Thanks for blogging about your off-grid journey...it's encouraging to read - especially when I feel overwhelmed by my comparatively small amount of farm work on just 3 1/2 acres.

The books sound wonderfully inspiring which is much needed right now:)

Thank you for the opportunity to be blessed by these books~

I have enjoyed reading about your farm, we all need to depend on ourselves a little (or a lot) more. Learning is a life long part of our lives, those that don't become stagnate, unhappy. I have a long list myself because self sufficiency is the goal. Learning from books and other peoples experiences is the key.

Melanie said...

I love that you're raising your family with such an alternative lifestyle, and that they appear to love it (despite the olders knowing different). The pics of the big kids thriving are probably my favorite part of the blog!!

I enjoy seeing the differences in how we farm and homestead. Both take a lot of hard work and ingenuity but since our farm is over 4,200 acres it is definitely more 'modern' in nature. The pictures you post and the videos you share are just wonderful.

What I love about your blog is that it inspires me and others to get out and do those things that we all want to do. You have shown that it can be done and that the modern day family really can live a more God centered life where we seek to give him glory and help others do the same.

Thanks so much for allowing us the chance to win one of these books. Both of them look great and I would love the Self-Sufficiency one if I happen to win.

I just love the way you share your joy of living a God centered home. I always look forward to see what will be posted next! Thanks for this opportunity to win a book. either of these would be a blessing.

I love reading your blog because like so many other readers, I wish I could do what you are doing, or think I do. But mostly I love seeing how your entire family gets into it and does what needs to be done. The icing on the cake is how you share your walk with Christ and how that journey is changing you.
Thank you

Right now, it would be the encouragement. You said, "God is driving"...My husband and I there! It's scarey at times, yet amazing and exciting knowing we are following HIM!

Thank you for your testimony!

I love your blog - from the godly insights to the beautifully taken photographs! My favorite part of your blog would have to be what you use for a microphone in your news updates! I've seen quite a bit now from a rolling pin to an empty corn cob! I just love the craziness! I'd like the Self-Sufficiency book over the Homesteading, but either would be fine with me. They look fantastic!God has truly blessed you with a great farm and a great life to live and a great story to share.

So many things I enjoy about your sweet family and the blog, I know what hard work it is for all of you. I love the way, the children work together with you, in order to accomplish the vision your family has set out to live.
I know from personal experience, it takes everyone being on the same page for it to run smoothly. You have instilled many admirable qualities in your children. The books would be a real treat!

Hi Ang...most inspiring? That you continued processing your harvest last year when your kitchen reached 130 degrees. It also put me to shame, but that's MY issue, right? :)
